This was part of my Secret Santa that I am way behind on actually finishing. But this was for a pal I met a few years ago for her Christmas gift, picturing the two of us (self-portrait!) poking around in the mysterious bowels of the Internet late at night. I originally was going to go the “ancient alien/mysteries” route and depict some artifacts, but I wasn’t able to settle on a museum design I liked.

Hopefully this comes a close second. More serene than mysterious, but I was pretty happy with it.

Well, tonight it one of the first times in ages I’m able to relax on Christmas Eve. However, I was behind on art obligations, so I decided to poach off of my Mom’s computer to draw. Why? Well, it’s within tossing distance of the Christmas tree and the kitchen. That way I’m not isolated in my room, holiday togetherness and whatnot.

I’ve been drawing for quite a long time. I sadly can’t say I’ve been drawing for most of my entire life, but it’s safe to say I’ve been drawing for 1/3rd if not more of it.

As described in my previous story about deviantART, my art skills didn’t really take off until I had access to the platform. A couple of years before that I had taken a short three-week special course at Walters State in a summer drawing class. That helped up my skills a whole bunch over my pre-teen drawings. It wasn’t great, but it wasn’t terrible, either.

So I follow the infamous Reg, daughter of the mom who’d play numerous Bioware video games. This subsequently led to the creation of Bioware According to Mom, which has been a fantastic journey to many, including the mom getting some fame in Mass Effect 3 when the Citadel DLC came out.

Anyways, Reg’s birthday was today and I saw a post of “all I got for my birthday was a discount code to buy a mobile game.” I figured the Internet space could do better, hence I cooked this up!

References include Bioware mom quips including the “krogers” working at Krogers (her pronunciation of krogans), Garrus getting stuck with the name Beans, and lastly getting her hands on a babby kroger (that’s how she spelled it.)

Suffice to say Reg loved it. Glad to be of service. Swing by their blog or follow on Twitter for more shenanigans!

I almost missed this one, but was browsing Twitter one night when I saw that Moon Studios were having a giveaway, in which they’d hand out some Ori-themed merchandise based on who submitted artwork. They’d pick some they like, then give those winners a prize. I never tried entering my art in contests like this (I always thought I was subpar and kind of still do), but I just decided to try something and get a piece out there.

This was the final result. I wasn’t too happy on the background but the overall piece was all right. I definitely liked the concept! So I entered it into the competition. We’ll see how it goes.

EDIT: Wow. I actually got selected and won a prize! This is just mind-blowing and completely floored me. I never expected to actually win something out of this. Thank you so much, Moon Studios. You guys are awesome!

You can check out my prize here. I also got listed on the developer’s site as a contest winner!

Despite having a lot of free time after I got laid off from work, I barely touched or did anything art related. In fact, it was in the middle of the “house disaster” that I was getting quite fed up with what was going on. To help try to reconstruct my social and work life, I tried to start drawing again. Not colorist work, actual drawing.

I was way out of practice and I saw that I had not even attempted to try drawing figures since I had graduated or working. I realized I needed to start doing some sort of drawing again.

This was the first step towards that. I took my blog mascots and drew out a hair-brained idea I had with spoofing Zenyatta’s ultimate. It wasn’t perfect but it was at least something.

In the geek/nerd/anime community, there’s a pun that goes around that “if you’re a virgin when you hit 30, you’ll become a wizard.” I fall into that category. However one night I was chatting with an ex-coworker, she mentioned that I was also a “tech wizard” in addition to that. I figured I’d embrace it it was going to happen regardless, and this happened. Now if my monitors would only stand up like that.

I’m still fooling around with the Wacom tablet. I came to the point to try this; I guess I wanted to try making some sort of comics after seeing some fan ones on deviantART float around. It took me ages to come up with this; I think I need a new computer that doesn’t lag when I draw.

So far my Wacom tablet’s been interesting. But how versatile can it be? I put this together in one take tonight, as a way to welcome 2010. I animated each frame in MS Paint, but drew a lot of this with the tablet. Animation frames are a thing. Also that’s my cousin, not me as he could use some nice company for recent events.

Happy New Year!
