Well, this was certainly an interesting bit! I had this very interesting prompt that turned out to be almost a good short story, all drawing inspiration from my online buddies’ DnD group (which I have to chronicle sometime). So, bouncing off of a prompt reply by u/ABitofKindness, I created the following prompt response over 3 or so posts, as there were character limits.

Done in the span of July 20-23, 2020.

Note: My writing for Reddit writing prompts is different for brevity. While this is a good example of my writing, I often omit backstory and several details to create a concise post. Please look at my other works if you’re looking for my more regular style of writing.

Pre Story Notes

To skip a bunch of visual descriptions, I’ll do what I did in the original thread; quickly show the party and outline who is who:

Left to right:

  • Pri the rogue bard,
  • Ned the necromancer sorceror
  • Melarue the half-elf noble fighter
  • Fiona, Ned’s girlfriend
  • Marios the pope elf.
  • Mance the swashbuckling rogue
  • Seijun the rogue monk
  • Yorina the alchemist trading cleric
  • Nora, Yorina and Marios’ friend.

Got a name to a face now? Good! I’ll let you get going without adieu.

For practice today I did some more observational drawing. I picked Robocop’s head because of a meme my DnD friends were passing around, and because of Mortal Kombat 11’s DLC.

A bit of DnD fanart I did of my friends’ characters, with two connections they made along the way in an Ellowwood-flavored Pathfinder 2e game. This time I made sure to clean up the lines from a friend’s feedback.

It’s only now I’m realizing how short halfings are. You can see the size different between him and Vak’shi, who’s a little over 7 feet tall.

It doesn’t help that me keeping to myself all these months, some of the “outside chatter” of the world is going to end has been getting to me. I’ve been trying not to be depressed by this, but me being a Christian it has made me take a pause.

I did this one late night I couldn’t sleep. I tried to be as surreal to a point, showing my character leaving a hell behind to go someplace better. It also gave me a chance to draw her in her new threads from the previous piece too. I had some other pieces I was working on that were related to this, which did take some inspiration from Zdzisław Beksiński.

I do hope things get better. If not, that I can at least handle what’s coming.

I got on a kick of listening to Synesthesics these past few days, and after hearing his NFS remixes, pumped this out. Your favorite blonde New Yorker/Notikan priestess takes to the road in a Lamborghini Aventador. I originally was just going to do her and nothing else, but this morphed into a full scene pretty quickly.

Give Synesthesics a listen at the following URL. The album that drove the inspiration for this is the NFS Reloaded 2nd Edition.

Did this earlier today, trying to get a hand of drawing a bit different. Still have a long ways to go; despite the virus, making it a goal this year to at least change my art style up. While working one day, had the urge to draw Vak’shi in different clothes in a more casual pose. I’m glad I did do that, I’m happy with it.

This was a draw-from-observation drawing I did from a photo one weekend, in a private Discord steam with a few Mobius PvE buddies. They loved the result, and gave me a mini-practice to stream when I get better Internet one day. Fun stuff!

I decided to make my own philly cheesesteak recently, considering that it’s hard to get sandwiches or the like where I live. I used this guy’s recipe, minus the worcestershire sauce as I didn’t have any on hand. I also did have to use smaller bread because of the pandemic.

It came out pretty tasty, and got to add two different varieties of cheese and mushrooms. My cousin’s fiance approved as well. I’ll need to make these again sometime.

I guess all this isolation has made me self-reflect a lot. Definitely have not been getting bored, that’s for sure.

With forays into long-forgotten files when I was in college, I found a mod I was working on to make Space Empires IV like Space Empires V. This was mostly an image swap to update the graphics, and to give a bunch more stuff to edit.

I’ve also come to realized how the few last fans of that game huddle in a corner and try to grow out, as the creator of their game has vanished off the internet without a trace. Very likely there will be no more Space Empires games, and whatever we create is what remains of that community.

It’s also given me thought of Olympus Champion Shipyards, my brother’s and I fansite for the 3rd iteration of the game. It now lies temporarily defunct due to a port issue, having been coded in SQL by my brother on his server.

That’s a whole few articles in itself, but the warming weather, memories of my past and the urge to touch Space Empires again has made me realize how much it meant to me when I was younger. I believe I’ll try to finish this mod 6 years later, and I also will try to make a repository to the best of my ability with what I have on hand. Time will tell.
