I was on my way home Friday afternoon, having done the grocery run. Just as I lined up for the final shot home on Asheville Hwy, I got a request; grab spicy McNuggets.

It’s the last haul, it was on my route, and it was Friday night. Why not? Yes, this is why I stopped, and what led me to seeing this.

So as I turn into McDonalds, I see a bunch of blue lights at a house behind Food City and Ingles. From the size of it, I didn’t realize it was a house; for some reason I always assumed that it was some community building/office. Well, there was a ton of police and fire trucks up around this place.

This was the first WritingPrompts I had done in 2019 on Reddit. I definitely fell in line, hook and sinker for the plot; write a story about being polite to the dragon, rather than defeating it for the goal. I decided to use an idea I ad from something I was writing in 2009, with a sort of OC based on me and a girl called Jennifer (whom you might’ve seen art for here in the past), going together through various settings like time travelers. I used the Reddit prompt to formulate a sort of “intro” story to that idea, which I’ll be springboarding off with in the future.

This is a two-part post, with the second post being published next week at the same time.

This version is also slightly edited, as I didn’t like how rough the first part was written on-demand when posting. The dragon and the warrior seemed too cardboard-cutout, and the events seemed to pre-planned.

I could see the clearing up ahead. My nose already scrunched at the smell of scorched flesh and smoke. I shook my head, focused on my task at hand.

I ran through my head what the old man had said back at the zen garden. Don’t go in starting a fight. Use wit. Appeal to him as your own friend. Give him a gift of interest.

So when I visited my cousin who graduated from UT earlier today, we all went out to go eat at Bombay Palace. I actually forgot that I’ve not been here in a few years; I do clearly remember visiting here when I graduated from ETSU myself in 2013. I guess it’s a hotspot for graduation families to visit.

 

Aside from whatever was in the buffet, I had a side of fried chicken pakora. This was real tasty and I think came out better than Sahib’s in Johnson City. I pretty much equate the taste to pholourie batter on fried chicken. On top of that, there’s a tamarind sweet sauce they give you, which is almost like honey mustard in taste; that complemented it real well.

 

Give it a shot when you get the chance.

When crunch comes to shove and I need something to hit the spot, egg drop soup and gas station coffee from Weigels will get me back on track. I’ve not perfected how to make restaurant-grade stuff as yet, so buying it from China Buffet will have to suffice. And while I do have my own coffee at home, I get a big cup for $1 and get to dump hazelnut cream and whatnot in it.

For tenders, this wasn’t bad at all! I gave a shot at a different chicken dish this evening, ending up with their signature chicken tenders. I got it slathered in Honey Hot, which almost tasted like BBQ chicken. Sides were mac n’ cheese, onion rings and fries.

 

This is actually one of the times that tenders dipped in a sauce tasted right. Almost better than KFC’s tenders I’d say.

While on a random IT job, I flipped off the lights in the server room to call it a day. Lo and behold I saw this wonderful projection of the power symbol off the monitor switch; so I snapped a picture before heading out. Very interesting to look at if anything.

I’ve passed this tree numerous times on the way home from work, but have never stopped to take a proper picture. It always looks so lone and ominous, especially during the afternoons when heading back in. So I just simply decided to grab it one day, no matter how poor the quality is.

 

This is the result. Looks like a pretty good landmark, doesn’t it?

Finally getting an upgrade! Just swapped to this iPhone 5S today, so this’ll be interesting. This is actually the first time I’m buying my own phone, so it’s a first for me. Still sticking to that Otterbox goodness; kept me out of trouble the first time around, and hopefully it’ll do the same this time.

 

So yes, this is my last photo with my old phone. Signing off for now.
