Michiko Bates Book #1 is now on Amazon!

It’s been a long time coming, but my Michiko book has finally seen the light of day for publishing! Last touches were put on it this Sunday, and it hit Amazon’s Kindle market not too long after. Still going through announcements in all of my known channels with this joyous news.

Project Update: Michiko Bates Book #1

Project Update: Michiko Bates Book #1

Thought I’d drop in quickly and give you an official update on Michiko Bates and the progress it stands. I’ve been directing posts regarding art to go on the Tumblr periodically, but aside from the Kickstarter backers, haven’t really made an official statement in case something else gets majorly delayed. I think its safe to do so at this point.

Despite the Kickstarter failure, we still prodded on. Continued writing, continued drawing and whatever else. Now one year later, we’ve made a lot more headway that what we had originally planned. What had started out as a 40,000-50,000 word novel with 10 sketches turned out to be a 70,000 word novel with over 22 illustrations.

Michiko Bates Book #1 – Preview Chapter

Michiko Bates Book #1 – Preview Chapter

Last week Tanya and I were drumming up ideas on how to spice up the Kickstarter page to draw in more visitors. One of her suggestions was to give a snippet of the work to the crowd to read.

It didn’t sound bad. Cook up one of the completed chapters, throw in the illustration for it and allow the public to get a glimpse of this project that we’ve been laboring over for a year now. I promptly agreed and got it online for backers to read over the weekend.

Today I’m sharing that link with everyone so that the general public can preview this preview work. This chapter is in both MOBI and EPUB for both kinds of readers (Kindle & iPad/Nook). You may download them from the links below.

**Backdated for historical purposes**

I originally never planned to post this, as people didn’t have interest in my writing at the time. As years went on, I’d mention that I had this story of “A space-capable C-5 Galaxy in a pseudo-Star Trek universe.” A few people had asked to read it now and then,

I can’t put a clear time when this got conceived. The date of image is around Thanksgiving in 2003, but I had posted that to deviantART in 2005. Considering I only played Sigma Star Saga in the tail end of 2006, April of 2007 is accurate with some uncertainty.

I was still very much into “borrowing popular characters to fill your cast”, so Psyme from that same game makes a feature. “Petrie” is the only exception; this is a reference, not the exact character. Think of him being more life-size, and the “claws” being actual hands to use rocket launchers.

This was long overdue based on someone who asked to read it years ago. Unfortunately it looked like that person passed from some illness, but I was unable to find it for a number of years to share with them. This is only seeing the light of day as it was part of a hard drive recovery in 2024. I’m only getting through the backlog a few years later.

So please enjoy, and one day this will get rewritten with much more descriptors than the short bit you see.

Tears of Algeron – Travel Journal

Tears of Algeron – Travel Journal

After getting some free time upon leaving school earlier this year, I decided to fully dive into Space Empires: Starfury. Very great but buggy game, especially if you’re trying to run it on an Windows Me machine with an 8MB Vanta graphics card. It’s a big departure from the strategy titles of the same name, such as Space Empires III or IV. Still, I never thought I’d be commanding my own starship; not like this.

I really got immersed into the game, seeing lots of opportunities for storytelling and imaginative writing. That’s what started me starting to a “make believe” journal

This is that account.
