Stardate 6008.10.03.12.55.28

Apologies for not being able to write a blog sooner. School has been very taxing and time-consuming for me, and when I wasn’t doing either, I was out of energy. Nevertheless, here goes.

Academic progress seems satisfactory so far. I have poured in hours to studying math, and though it looks like I didn’t hit rock bottom, I still need to continue to study that even harder. Art seems fun, Geography is a little bit of a drag due to a very cold room and a 3 hour length class, and Western Civ because of all the people packed around me.

I’m not going to explain all my problems to bore you, but I’m not doing well for the moment. Attempting to be upbeat every single day with no place to plug in and charge up your upbeat battery drains you after a while. I haven’t been able to charge for weeks…

Besides that, started liking Steampunk genre style and cosplaying, so working on that. Fish are doing fine, Orion needs tuning and maintenance.

Signing off for now.

WSCC – Basic Design 1 – Charcoal Study

This was a charcoal study we did in class today; the point of it was to get used to the drawing properties of charcoal and how to use them on mediums. The teacher took a bunch of random wood blocks, dumping them onto a table and having us draw still life. It was actually real fun, and it was great to take my mind off stuff like other classes I was going through at the time.

I’ll have to figure out how to scan this. While it does fit on a flatbed to a degree, the charcoal is quite smudgy and leaves a mess. Maybe a high definition photo sometime?

EDIT 2009: You can view a high-res of the work here.

WSCC – Basic Design 1 – Pencil Art Portrait

Got this done recently; this was my class assignment for drawing a portrait into an 18″ x 24″ full piece of an art piece in my Art History book (the name escapes me, but I’ll update it as soon as I remember). I got a B on it as I could’ve added more shading depth, but my teacher was impressed that I duplicated it more or less. I was surprised as well. Snapped quickly with my v325i.

EDIT 2009: You can view a high-quality piece with more info here.

WSCC – Basic Design 1 – Class Midterm 1 WIP

Whelp, got my first assignment in Basic Design 1. I have to re-interpret a painting!

I’ll definitely share details as it comes along, as the name escapes me. Don’t worry, I’ll definitely let you know what it is with the completed piece, or do an edit later.

But as you can see, first thing’s first is to block out everything in a grid. I’ll then get the basic outline of everything, then start putting in details. It’s quite daunting as the figure is more realistic, so I have no idea how this will turn out in my art style.

I snapped this quick with my v325i for self-memory, while we were working in class. Typically I use the HP717 and getting a good photo of things, but I opted for a quick snap here instead.

EDIT 2009: Here’s the finished piece, and a proper high-resolution shot of the finished work.

WSCC – Lego Vigilance

While I was waiting for some evaluation results at the Walters State general office, I got to work with playing with some kid’s blocks they had sitting around. This was the final result; a rough version of the Vigilance from my to-be 2008 NaNoWriMo entry. Apparently the lady at the desk was somewhat impressed with it as well.

The View from My Repainted Room

I’ll give getting to to around to places like Animazement some credence; it helped me just a bit become more outgoing and feel like I had something in common with somebody. So what does that have to do with a room shot?

Because I redecorated the room to what it is. I bought certain furniture, used paint leftover from my parent’s store to give it a facelift, and even bought some recessed lights to go into the ceiling. The result was this fairly attractive room, that had some styling to feng shuei and a tad splash of new age.

I had cleaned up my room pretty good as I was starting school again, and I decided to show you guys what it looks like before it got messy again.

And yes, while that view may be physically lovely (which it is sometimes, I admit), the lack of communication and connection with the outside world makes it one of the most depressing and soul-crushing vistas at the same time. You can’t communicate or reach out to people here, and it isn’t a place for a “non-local” college student needing friends, a girlfriend and a place to sink roots to start his life. Just my two cents.

Eateries – Ryans Chicken and Onion Ring Face

I went out with a connection of mine, meeting them in Johnson City to just get my mind off of some nonsense that was going at. We were originally going to go to an Indian restaurant, but they were doing that “siesta” thing where they close between lunch and dinner. So we ended up at Ryans’ instead.

I think near the end of us eating, I just wanted to top off so I made a face out of my food. She certainly got a kick out of it. Now if they’d have onion rings more often…

Sweeney Todd Stage Rehearsals

Found these couple of videos a short bit back, they’re some rehearsals for a theater production of Sweeney Todd; I think I saved them a couple years ago off Myspace. But this dude’s has an impressive performance of Todd, and his sidekick does a good job of acting, too!

Cast

Sweeney Todd – Glenn Nilsson
Mrs. Lovett – Karin Funk

Zelda – Boss Bunny Doodle

This only came about because I was left with this Telus paper to doodle with. As I was getting into the Zelda fandom, I really did like the idea of Zelda going around with Link on his adventures. So this idea of him seeing his villainous bunny, makes him wonder if there’s a powerup waiting for him after defeating it.

Zelda with the Master Sword and Shield

This was something silly I did with my newfound Zelda figurine I got from Animazement earlier this year. I found that if I was careful, I could have her mount Link’s shied on her arm, and kind of pose with the Master Sword with the other. I didn’t have the other camera to snap a photo, so I just used my flip phone to grab the shot.
