I was behind with quite a few things. This includes actually updating you when this piece got done and what happened with it.

First, the piece I was trying to reinterpret. It’s called Ancestors of Tehamana by Paul Gaugin. I remember I wanted to go with a multitude of other pieces, but I was told to “stick with a Western style, and pick something with a prominent face.” So no animals, scenery, that sort of thing.

Alright then, that’s what I did.

Honestly I wasn’t too happy with the face, but I did the background pretty well at least. I was told to do a lot more definitive shading and learn how to copy realistic body features with my art technique. Both very valid things to work with, especially when working with traditional media like this.

I honestly was a bit spooked with the island motifs in the back; give me an Alien game any day over that. The eyes on the primary clay figure reminded me of the atypical aliens that’d show up in most UFO encounters.

I got a B on this, mainly for the points above.

This piece was completed September 2, 2008.
