Storytime – My Game Development Background

Storytime – My Game Development Background

In 2005, I was basking in the sudden influx of uninterrupted Internet access at Walters State Community College. DeviantArt was my 2nd go-to place, I was getting a lot more writing done and I could use the Internet without having to bother what my parents would say.

A lot of time would be spent here. Hours beyond than what I usually needed to be at school. All because I didn’t have a proper computer at home, and didn’t have free Internet access.

It was one afternoon in early fall of 2007, I had joined a forum and discovered by the name of Game Maker. The people of the forum had recommended it to me when I have voiced how I wanted to make a game. I figured that I would bomb at computer programming since I had failed Visual Basic a semester before. What harm would it be to fool around with it?

Turns out I was wrong.

The Ellowwood Keepers

This was in the works since last fall actually, but I only got around to getting it done within the past few days. But I’ve had this idea of taking a girl from each faction on Talmeron, and sticking them together as if they were getting ready for a harvest festival. This was the end result!

Inktober 2018 – Day 4 – Spell

For day #4 of Inktober’s Spell, I take to true and tried; Touhou fanart! Here we have best girl Sanae taking on someone in Gensokyo with a boatload of spells. I’ll leave it up to your imagination to figure out who she may be up against.

Inktober 2018 – Day 3 – Roasted

For Inktober’s #3 entry of Roasted, I made a sci-fi flamethrower. Features include displayed ammo on top, slanted rear grip handle, shielded front handle and emergency canister extinguisher, along with quick fuel disconnect.

When designing this, I specifically tried to approach it with the mentality that it would be deployed for use in a space combat environment. Don’t know if any of that carried across.

The Sassy Duchess – #04 Slow Mondays

I decided to start numbering the single-panel comics I’ve been doing about CMDR Taranava. I got feedback for two different versions, but I’m sticking with the non-frame version for now.

This came to mind as I was inspired a bit by @honouri’s stuff, and just had the idea of plopping the character on the floor playing with an SRV. This was the result.

Things can be slow at the Duchess’ HQ, I guess.

Inktober 2018 – Day 1 – Poisonous

My first entry into Inktober, Poisonous! I know it seems like it’s just a pitcher plant (and those drown their prey rather than poison them), but I thought it’d be a good concept. So I made a poisonous one with dangerous toxins wafting out of it, along with some poisonous berries!

Storytime – Drawing Comics

I’ve been drawing for quite a long time. I sadly can’t say I’ve been drawing for most of my entire life, but it’s safe to say I’ve been drawing for 1/3rd if not more of it.

As described in my previous story about deviantART, my art skills didn’t really take off until I had access to the platform. A couple of years before that I had taken a short three-week special course at Walters State in a summer drawing class. That helped up my skills a whole bunch over my pre-teen drawings. It wasn’t great, but it wasn’t terrible, either.

13th Doctor – Doctor Who Birthday Gift

Something I threw together for a Facebook friend, as today is their birthday. Originally it was just going to be the cake, but while on a tangent I decided to just draw the new Doctor in a more retro outfit. I’ve never really watched or seen the new Doctor Who series after Matt Smith, and this is how I envisioned the new Doctor to be in a way. A sort of clean and trim Victorian kind of style. I did retain a version of her jacket, though.

Todd Squad Delta: Filler #2 – #Oilymama Intervention

Previous Page | Next Page

This is the comic page that got the most attention. With over 400 upvotes on Reddit, getting posted both in other subreddits and even a Facebook group, it obviously struck a nerve with people. If it was good or bad, I have yet to see.

Now there was a censored version with this comic, and it was missing two frames of action. The subreddit was in a bit of a schism and I didn’t want the comic to feel like it was attacking anyone; but from the feedback I received, nothing was the matter and it was welcome. So I did the uncensored version a few months later.

This came on the height of a wave of posts over there, mainly from reps telling various people that their oils would cure things. From telling parents that it’d make their disabled kid walk again, to applying them to large open flesh wounds, and even a nutty mom who tried to douse her teenage son in essential oils to “get rid of his rebellious and moody behavior.” The latter especially served as a template for the mom in the comic.

Not much explaining here otherwise,  but it was fun to draw the squad in combat gear; took me a bit to figure out what kind of weapon Benthessia would use, but I kitted her with a shotgun as a nod off to Yorina’s armament. So please enjoy.
