visual novel

I have not really been working on Dawnstar since fall, but when I do work on the dev portions, I tend to make large strides in bursts. This is no different.

After much feedback from some of the Steam Greenlighters, I was able to use Ren’py’s new tools to make a custom chat box. In this instance, I went with a retro-looking “computron” frame for the box. Gave the name it’s own spot on the top, and everything can flow freely on the bottom, while leaving room for the characters!

What do you guys think? Do you prefer this over the original black gradient? Let me know in the comments below.

Hello peeps,

Just a quick announcement to let you know that Dawnstar got submitted to Steam Greenlight. I’m approximately about a month to six weeks away from completion of the final product, having just finished coding up to the first “big” mission. There’s approximately four of those left, the ending, the outro, and then a splice that would lead to a next episode.

So please do show your support by voting for Dawnstar to be released on Steam. Despite whatever happens over there, I will be releasing the game on my website and other channels that will allow the game to be distributed on. The link is here:

I had composed a few things as a backlog for continuing with my blog on a full-time basis, but have not due to a pressing family issue currently going on in my life. When it clears I’ll hopefully be back to my good old self.

Dawnstar has progressed greatly over the 15 months that I had hired an illustrator to help me with the art. This was the biggest burden on me for completing the game, and after all that time coming to a point that I have a complete set of art assets for the project. Hannah has been nothing short of helpful and a great person to work with.

I drummed this up last night, thanks to IveeSparrow (NoraSR13) for producing two Dawnstar sprites for me! I think this is generally what I’m thinking for with the layout of the game. Definitely have a very long way to go with the art, but I hope I improve as I go through ETSU. Hey, big goals, right?
