ETSU – Ducks in a Flood

Saw this on the way to class today.

I first took the photo thinking it was astounding that the gap was flooded between the road and train tracks, then saw this flock of ducks swimming around in the water.

As you can see past the plastic barrier, the current was actually concerning. It looked like they were doing okay, but likely because they were away from the main stream.

ETSU Classwork – Visual Thinking Storyboard Animatic Project

This is a project I cooked up while in my first DIGM class of the year at ETSU. It was a storytelling sequence in which we had to add sound effects and other things like voice acting, and tell a story in 3 minutes roughly. This was my project. It was a freelancer and a couple of his friends who are hired to return a ship Navigator along with a combat droid to a docked starship. Got criticized that this was more movie like but I guess I can’t win them all. Got a good grade, so that counts.

EDIT 2018:

Little did I know this would be one of the cornerstones for developing Dawnstar as time went on. My characters would morph into more original versions and veer off into something that I would be pleased with. It’s interesting to look back and see how far it’s come from simple sketches and this storyboard concept, even.

ETSU – Raster 1 Final

Well, that took forever.

This is my final composition piece for my Digital Media class this semester. I picked a G-17 in the heat of a skirmish kicking the Aeon out of a system. It’s one of the first times I’ve shown the “good guys” getting a pounding. It’s also one of the first art pieces that I’ve done that I’ve felt somewhat emotional about.

Title pretty much speaks because of the picture in the corner on the dashboard. More or less it sums up how I’ve felt at school if that picture wasn’t there; doing what you had to do and that it might benefit somebody else, but you’re by yourself in the end…

I took a lot of heavy inspiration from the modern F-22 cockpit for this, including avionics and the glass-panel look that the fighter had. Apparently my teacher was not a fan of this, preferring something more old, rugged and practical. I don’t blame him, that’s just not the IGA aesthetic of things.

Definitely sunk a number of hours on this. My tablet was still being nonsensical at the time, despite only having it a year up to now. Let’s hope I get it actually working to do what I want as time goes on, otherwise it’s just a paperweight.

ETSU Chalk Graffiti

I always pass something of this sort when going through ETSU, but this is the first time I saw it in an open space that wasn’t a classroom building. Sounds like there was a fun party going on, not much to say otherwise.

ETSU – Carrot in the Library

When I was hanging out with my friend at Sherrod library, we found this random carrot half-stuck in the trash can on the way out. And this wasn’t a small carrot either; this was like a 1-foot kind in the big bags in the produce section.

Both of us were definitely baffled, and she couldn’t figure out why someone had a carrot in there in the first place. Third floor I believe.

ETSU – Traffic Cone on Campus Lamp

I’ve always heard people talk about pranks and nonsense that people pull off from being at ETSU. I’ve never seen any of these pranks occur or their aftermaths. Just the tales from students a few years later.

This wasn’t the case.

On this particular morning while going to class, I spied this out-of-place traffic cone on top of a lamp near Lamb Hall. I have no idea how that got there, but that’s…creatively placed.

Leaving Home for ETSU

I apologize if the photo is blurry, but I swiped this from my Mom; she caught this as I was boarding my car to head to my apartment, with m last load of precious items to permanently stay at my apartment. Class was the next day, so the earlier I left and got settled in, the better. I told my family goodbye and basically just left on the dot at 6PM. It was a very weird and strange feeling, and I had never felt so independent in my whole life.

It was bittersweet, but I had been longing such a chance since I was supposed to go to Walters State in 2005; and this felt like a new page, a new reset to try again. But for the most part, it felt a lot better and more solid than what was going on then. Like something right had at least happened.

Update – Moving!

Word can’t quite describe what’s going through my head at the moment; I’m finally moving to somewhere else to go to ETSU! Definitely uncertain territory I’m heading into, but I’m also eager and excited. At least I’ll know some familiar faces up there, as my cousin and sister will be attending. Too bad I don’t have a roommate, though.

As I still have two more whole months till school stars, the process will be slow and drawn-out in between of work. But the process has begun, nonetheless. It’s official; I have another place than the rural country backwoods of Parrottsville to call home, even if its for a little while.
