girlfriend

This was a strange dream I had back in 2018. It’s been with me for quite awhile, and while I’ve come to realize what I was going through, it was one of the first dreams I shared publicly at the time elsewhere. It’s high time I added it to my repertoire now that I am sharing my dream journal here, and with some thoughts from what I had learned in that time.

Original Dream Date: December 19, 2018

The dream starts that my parental family (mom, dad, siblings) took possession and ownership of my uncle’s house, who I’ll refer to as N. He was married to my dad’s sister, and they had an only child who is a cousin. We’re not close anymore and some stuff has happened that’s made me go my own way. It’s not great feelings, so this general sense of those feelings loom over me this portion of the dream.

When I saw this WritingPrompt for being stuck with a life partner, I happily gave it a stab using my space pope archetype. Everyone was also “Umm, don’t know what to say”. Definitely had to change that trend.

It was a bit rushed, so my version here is a little fleshed out.

Done September 24, 2020.

Note: My writing for Reddit writing prompts is different for brevity. While this is a good example of my writing, I often omit backstory and several details to create a concise post. Please look at my other works if you’re looking for my more regular style of writing.

OP

I slowly blinked to existence. I saw a bunch of agitated couples about me, a female genie laughing her behind off. As I tried to waft the smell of smoke off of me, she noticed and glanced at a figure in front of me.

“And here’s your new life partner.”

The genie poofed into nothingness before I could say another. I was stunned for a brief minute, assessing my surroundings.

Aside from dozens of various freaking out couples, it reminded me of a fantasy version of those cityscapes I’d see on deviantART. I started to wonder about how I was going to get back to my old life, and what was my immediate future plans. However that didn’t stop me from regarding the person I had been ‘stuck’ with.

While this concept was something I’ve been wanting to do for a very long time, I started on it just around the time @gettingoutofmyhometown was having her Instagram giveaway. If you draw something with her character for the event, your art gets a chance to be featured, along with being given 3 entries for the giveaway.

So I did a different version of this piece, putting her character in as the protagonist instead of who I was originally going to go with. Honestly I think it came out well. She was impressed with it as well, going to print out a copy to hang up!

As for the story behind the original plot? I’ll do the original version I had intended first, but I’ve been making notes and I do plan on writing about it. But it involves a prototype space-superiority fighter, an old engineer looking for young blood to fly it, and a looming threat intentionally being buried under wraps.

You’ll definitely be hearing about this story in the future.

I literally spent an all-nighter on this. O_O

First, voting results. Benthessia was the winner by one vote! Everyone else was a tie in at second. That was a shock for me, and while I process what to do with that revelation, will plug ahead as promised. Todd now has a lovely Notikan women to stand by his side and help him out in the challenges ahead.

I spent a huge amount of time on the cockpit and the homeworld panels, but I really wanted to hammer what the Notikan homeworld was like. As much as I’ve written it by myself and want to portray in Dawnstar one of these days, I had to actually come up with something to show how their world looked. I finally settled on something partially ancient and a little regal, as a herald to their ancient Latin-like roots.

But Brayleigh, Todd’s ex-wife rears her ugly head upon seeing that Todd has a new friend. Looks like he has his work cut out for him.

This was something I was doodling on my tablet this evening. I’ve just felt isolated a bit and though I have people to talk to here at ETSU, it doesn’t feel real deep and I don’t think I feel like I fit in to do something more. My mind kind of wandered to doing something impactful with a girlfriend figure by my side; I usually draw my OC Jennifer in that role, but I guess the Sheena character from Tales of Symphonia was in my head at the time. Not sure how to find that at college, but it doesn’t seem like it’s going to happen from hanging out in a Christian outreach group, that’s for sure.
