This was the first WritingPrompts I had done in 2019 on Reddit. I definitely fell in line, hook and sinker for the plot; write a story about being polite to the dragon, rather than defeating it for the goal. I decided to use an idea I ad from something I was writing in 2009, with a sort of OC based on me and a girl called Jennifer (whom you might’ve seen art for here in the past), going together through various settings like time travelers. I used the Reddit prompt to formulate a sort of “intro” story to that idea, which I’ll be springboarding off with in the future.

This is a two-part post, with the second post being published next week at the same time.

This version is also slightly edited, as I didn’t like how rough the first part was written on-demand when posting. The dragon and the warrior seemed too cardboard-cutout, and the events seemed to pre-planned.

Done in April 21, 2019.

Note: My writing for Reddit writing prompts is different for brevity. While this is a good example of my writing, I often omit backstory and several details to create a concise post. Please look at my other works if you’re looking for my more regular style of writing.

Second Entry

I could see the clearing up ahead. My nose already scrunched at the smell of scorched flesh and smoke. I shook my head, focused on my task at hand.

I ran through my head what the old man had said back at the zen garden. Don’t go in starting a fight. Use wit. Appeal to him as your own friend. Give him a gift of interest.

This was a charcoal study we did in class today; the point of it was to get used to the drawing properties of charcoal and how to use them on mediums. The teacher took a bunch of random wood blocks, dumping them onto a table and having us draw still life. It was actually real fun, and it was great to take my mind off stuff like other classes I was going through at the time.

I’ll have to figure out how to scan this. While it does fit on a flatbed to a degree, the charcoal is quite smudgy and leaves a mess. Maybe a high definition photo sometime?

Got this done recently; this was my class assignment for drawing a portrait into an 18″ x 24″ full piece of an art piece in my Art History book (the name escapes me, but I’ll update it as soon as I remember). I got a B on it as I could’ve added more shading depth, but my teacher was impressed that I duplicated it more or less. I was surprised as well.

I’ll get a better picture of this down the line sometime.

While I was waiting for some evaluation results at the Walters State general office, I got to work with playing with some kid’s blocks they had sitting around. This was the final result; a rough version of the Vigilance from my to-be 2008 NaNoWriMo entry. Apparently the lady at the desk was somewhat impressed with it as well.

When I went out with the Morristown BCM group today, I made this Dumpshake mascot for Sean, who’s Halo handle is his namesake. So when he was busy chatting it up with his other BCM buddies, I took his cup, drew this face then used my cup to make the head and antenna.

At the time he approved. That was enough for me, as nobody except two kids in that group actually cared for my humor or art.

When looking to do some Christmas shopping this season, I ran across this oddity; a trailer for the UPS trucks! I never saw one of these before, so I definitely had to grab a picture of it. I guess the mall had a lot of business this season.

I took me a bit to get this up here, but a guy I knew out of Astronomy class snapped this with his camera, back when we were building our traffic cone for the Walters State drunk driving event. Traditional film, black and white. About a week afterwards he gave me a print, which I did drag my feet to post.

Either way, he thought it was funny that the res of us had our phones out taking photos.

Never got taken out in that kind of medium, I will admit!

So some peeps and I from Astronomy class were putting together our decorated traffic cone for the drunk driving awareness event a few days from now. I snapped this at Sarah’s apartment before we got ready to take him back to the student affairs office.

I’m sure I have an HD picture of him somewhere; I’ll try to get it up if I find it.
