This was a charcoal study we did in class today; the point of it was to get used to the drawing properties of charcoal and how to use them on mediums. The teacher took a bunch of random wood blocks, dumping them onto a table and having us draw still life. It was actually real fun, and it was great to take my mind off stuff like other classes I was going through at the time.

I’ll have to figure out how to scan this. While it does fit on a flatbed to a degree, the charcoal is quite smudgy and leaves a mess. Maybe a high definition photo sometime?

Got this done recently; this was my class assignment for drawing a portrait into an 18″ x 24″ full piece of an art piece in my Art History book (the name escapes me, but I’ll update it as soon as I remember). I got a B on it as I could’ve added more shading depth, but my teacher was impressed that I duplicated it more or less. I was surprised as well.

I’ll get a better picture of this down the line sometime.

While I was waiting for some evaluation results at the Walters State general office, I got to work with playing with some kid’s blocks they had sitting around. This was the final result; a rough version of the Vigilance from my to-be 2008 NaNoWriMo entry. Apparently the lady at the desk was somewhat impressed with it as well.

I’ll give getting to to around to places like Animazement some credence; it helped me just a bit become more outgoing and feel like I had something in common with somebody. So what does that have to do with a room shot?

Because I redecorated the room to what it is. I bought certain furniture, used paint leftover from my parent’s store to give it a facelift, and even bought some recessed lights to go into the ceiling. The result was this fairly attractive room, that had some styling to feng shuei and a tad splash of new age.

I had cleaned up my room pretty good as I was starting school again, and I decided to show you guys what it looks like before it got messy again.

And yes, while that view may be physically lovely (which it is sometimes, I admit), the lack of communication and connection with the outside world makes it one of the most depressing and soul-crushing vistas at the same time. You can’t communicate or reach out to people here, and it isn’t a place for a “non-local” college student needing friends, a girlfriend and a place to sink roots to start his life. Just my two cents.

I went out with a connection of mine, meeting them in Johnson City to just get my mind off of some nonsense that was going at. We were originally going to go to an Indian restaurant, but they were doing that “siesta” thing where they close between lunch and dinner. So we ended up at Ryans’ instead.

I think near the end of us eating, I just wanted to top off so I made a face out of my food. She certainly got a kick out of it. Now if they’d have onion rings more often…
