This was the first WritingPrompts I had done in 2019 on Reddit. I definitely fell in line, hook and sinker for the plot; write a story about being polite to the dragon, rather than defeating it for the goal. I decided to use an idea I ad from something I was writing in 2009, with a sort of OC based on me and a girl called Jennifer (whom you might’ve seen art for here in the past), going together through various settings like time travelers. I used the Reddit prompt to formulate a sort of “intro” story to that idea, which I’ll be springboarding off with in the future.

This is a two-part post, with the second post being published next week at the same time.

This version is also slightly edited, as I didn’t like how rough the first part was written on-demand when posting. The dragon and the warrior seemed too cardboard-cutout, and the events seemed to pre-planned.

Done in April 21, 2019.

Note: My writing for Reddit writing prompts is different for brevity. While this is a good example of my writing, I often omit backstory and several details to create a concise post. Please look at my other works if you’re looking for my more regular style of writing.

OP

Second Entry

I could see the clearing up ahead. My nose already scrunched at the smell of scorched flesh and smoke. I shook my head, focused on my task at hand.

I ran through my head what the old man had said back at the zen garden. Don’t go in starting a fight. Use wit. Appeal to him as your own friend. Give him a gift of interest.

In 2007 I was coming to the realization that I was barely making headway with friends and social life at college. Everyone was so country, dating someone or people old enough to be your parents. I wasn’t part of the “I graduated from Morristown High School” group, the ghetto click or “redneck romeo”. I was really standalone, slowly discovering that there were more sociable people online than the people in front of me.

In February or March of that year I had started getting into contact with one of my cousins. He, his brother and another cousin were all attending East Tennessee State University, or ETSU. I hadn’t talked to them much earlier, but was beginning to learn that this mystical college was well within reach. All I had known that it was a big school and was more like a “university”.

Originally this was a notebook sketch dating back to 2009, so I apologize for the quality of the art style.

To make a very long story short, I ran across a lady in school, but she was quite empty-headed and lazy to put it mildly. The breaking straw was that she had asked me to help her get a school assignment off of a library database, but it turned out that she was expecting me to do the entire thing, not just give her directions on how to retrieve it herself. I started to distance myself from her and stick to more of my online friends even more.

My feelings towards the situation was summed up in this picture; intelligent, well-read women confronting said woman and squaring off against her. I had stopped drawing people I had met in real life by then, but this was a special exception.

And moreso when I brought it to life in 2011, even getting to use my sibling’s Mac and my Bamboo tablet. Why digitally color it so many years later? It turns out she started going to ETSU too, and was starting to try to pull the same shenanigans again. While this time around I had real people to get support from, the initial sentiment still held true.

EDIT 2013: Years later, I related this story to a fellow classmate our final week of class. He laughed and told me “Raine and Sheena have to go save their world! They don’t have time to be your personal mafia.” As such I find his description very fitting, and am renaming the post to reflect it.

See? Your input makes a difference sometimes.

I’ll give getting to to around to places like Animazement some credence; it helped me just a bit become more outgoing and feel like I had something in common with somebody. So what does that have to do with a room shot?

Because I redecorated the room to what it is. I bought certain furniture, used paint leftover from my parent’s store to give it a facelift, and even bought some recessed lights to go into the ceiling. The result was this fairly attractive room, that had some styling to feng shuei and a tad splash of new age.

I had cleaned up my room pretty good as I was starting school again, and I decided to show you guys what it looks like before it got messy again.

And yes, while that view may be physically lovely (which it is sometimes, I admit), the lack of communication and connection with the outside world makes it one of the most depressing and soul-crushing vistas at the same time. You can’t communicate or reach out to people here, and it isn’t a place for a “non-local” college student needing friends, a girlfriend and a place to sink roots to start his life. Just my two cents.

This was taken at the Drunk Driving Awareness event we were running at Walters State earlier today. You could count this as a sort of “press release” photo if you’d like, showing off the members of the Astronomy Club that was there to participate in the event. Sadly I had to leave to work shortly thereafter, so I wasn’t around for very long.

From left to right: Me, another member of the Astronomy Club I don’t remember, Sarah Manuel and Stephanie Whiteley.

I ran into this dude at the Morristown Mall, while my Mom was taking me clothes shopping for my first semester at Walters State. Typically these things have blank faces or they’re extruded without paint, but this literally looked it was scribbled on with markers. My sister just made up her face when I showed it to her.
