Writing

This was the first WritingPrompts I had done in 2019 on Reddit. I definitely fell in line, hook and sinker for the plot; write a story about being polite to the dragon, rather than defeating it for the goal. I decided to use an idea I ad from something I was writing in 2009, with a sort of OC based on me and a girl called Jennifer (whom you might’ve seen art for here in the past), going together through various settings like time travelers. I used the Reddit prompt to formulate a sort of “intro” story to that idea, which I’ll be springboarding off with in the future.

This is the second part of a two-part post, which the first part was posted a few weeks ago.

This version is also slightly edited, as I didn’t like how rough the first part was written on-demand when posting. This was done as my on-the-fly typing for the prompt had plot holes, and things wouldn’t match up from the edits I did for the first entry.

Done in April 21, 2019.

Note: My writing for Reddit writing prompts is different for brevity. While this is a good example of my writing, I often omit backstory and several details to create a concise post. Please look at my other works if you’re looking for my more regular style of writing.

First Entry

For me loving Queens, I had no idea this cafe existed. It was closer to the residential block near Merrick, and was strangely upkept in comparison to the older and rundown establishments on the same block. Why it wasn’t covered in graffiti or looked like it was a cheap knock-off smartphone shop was beyond me. It was set apart from the others, its clean red brick exterior clashing with the violet and gray painted shops around.

This version is also slightly edited, as I didn’t like how rough the first part was written on-demand when posting. The dragon and the warrior seemed too cardboard-cutout, and the events seemed to pre-planned.

Second Entry

I could see the clearing up ahead. My nose already scrunched at the smell of scorched flesh and smoke. I shook my head, focused on my task at hand.

I ran through my head what the old man had said back at the zen garden. Don’t go in starting a fight. Use wit. Appeal to him as your own friend. Give him a gift of interest.

This was the first WritingPrompts I had done in 2018 on Reddit. It seemed fairly easy enough; overdramatize a mundane, everyday situation. I took the situation of my broken Jeep to task, transforming it into this story. Let’s see if you can spot how many technical references I make to a 42RE transmission.

Author’s Note: This was supposed to be a short episode for the end of the month, but actually ended up being just as long as a regular blog serial installment. So I apologize for not have the additional illustrations that would go along with such a lengthy piece. That aside, please do enjoy!

It was one of those odd times that Heather had actually experienced. Usually she was late, stumbling into the kitchen sloppily dressed. But this particular morning she actually had woken up in time with the rest of the household. The air was cooler, having sent her sleeping deeply the previous night. The daylight had changed and now resembled early in the afternoon. Her whole body knew that a change of season was upon them.

Today’s tasks were a bit mundane, mostly with clearing fallow grass from the back garden. There might be an errand into the inner town for Elizabeth, but only time would tell. At least she was able to take Fluff up and about.

This was one of these writing prompts off of Reddit I had the compelling urge to respond to. After all, I get to work in my anachronistic beach comber sketch! So I made a backstory for the character, pretended she was a painting and drummed this up.

When I started to do Reddit writing prompts again, I knew I just had to do one of this one. I did a bit of an isekai kind of concept with it, but it should still be enjoyable nonetheless. This was based on a prompt by the name of “Derelict”. This was specifically an image prompt, unlike most of the other prompts which are usually text-based.

Hello readers!

Despite my ongoing situation of getting full-time employment in the IT/graphic design/game development field, I still plod away at my projects at some pace or the other. Some faster than others, some frequently hitting the back burner for weeks at a time.

This is one of those projects that went a bit slower, but thankfully was short so it wouldn’t take more than 6 months to complete. >.>;;

Heather tromped down the steps, finally finished with her last task of folding linens. The weather was a little warmer to her disliking, and she could hear a bustle of activity from the shop. Her arms were weary, glad to finally take a small break.

“Chores, chores, chores. I wish I’d get something else to do,” she muttered.

It had been over a month since the attempted kidnapping had taken place. The abductor was quickly caught, and a hastily gathered group of men had managed to hunt down the large creature that they had squared off against. A search had also taken place for the man who had sold her Pipp, being cited as the one responsible for the other creature as well.

Despite a week passing, Heather still couldn’t forget the words said to her at Elizabeth’s doorstep. She kept a wide berth away from McCally at all times just to be on the safe side. This was mostly in public; Heather never knew what the woman could do to her, so it was better to stay safe than sorry.

Pipp was still being lively as ever. He hadn’t grown a whole lot and would probably be in trouble if he got into a scuffle with a cat. However a small change start to set in. Pipp seemed more calculating and reactive to those around him. It was like he was thinking a lot, able to mirror off the moods of the people around him. He could tell if they were happy, sad or frustrated and react accordingly.
