Tech

This was a long time coming. I’ve been jokingly called a time traveler for a number of years, but my workhorse of a GTX 770 is finally getting upgraded with a GTX 1070. Definitely sure it’ll play Elite: Dangerous a lot better, but now I can take on some modern games a bit better.

As extremely odd as it sounds, I’ve only recently owned a second laptop. I’ve always owned the same one or done without. It was a monumental move for me to get a second laptop after the cooling fan went on my first machine, it also being the second new computer I had bought for myself. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the story of Novablade.

Circa 2010, I had just enrolled in ETSU and had just settled into my apartment near college. After being quite well-informed that my college courses were tech intensive, my family decided to get a laptop for me to do the work that I needed to do.

Before I got this, my method of typing was taking an Apple Keyboard with a stand wherever I went. Worked in a pinch, but took up a lot of valuable real estate when plopping my iPad mini down. And it worked horrible on your lap without a lap desk or something hard to put your stuff down on. Especially bad for traveling.

That all changed when I got the Zagg Folio Case.

I first spotted this thing when I had gone into the Verizon store to upgrade my iPhone 4 to 5S, circa launch day in August of 2013. While I was waiting in line, I had spied iPad Mini accessories on their racks, which one was a folio case.

“Wow,” I thought to myself. “Illuminated keys?”

I came away with a lot of things from my ETSU experience. Some of these were negative and things I battle to this day, and a few were good things that has immensely helped me or changed my outlook on life. This is one of the latter.

As shut-in as it sounded, I never was aware or had the concept of a computer running more than one monitor. All the time in Walters State’s PC labs or my own computers, I’ve always seen one PC tower to one monitor. It didn’t help that there was only one display port on the back, either. When I had gotten my “last” Millenium project back in 2007, I was introduced to more than one display port on a computer; the DVI port. Still I only had one monitor to use with this. It wasn’t like I was curious to plug in two monitors like I would’ve done five years from that date.

Hello all!

So, about actually putting up a helpful article here…high time I did that rather than leave this thing up as a name billboard.

I got messaged by a fellow back in January right after New Year’s about woes he was having about a hardware error of a device I owned. Apparently he stumbled upon a forum post and found my page here (don’t know how that came about). Either way my solution was very…um, how to put this; unorthodox and not straightforward. I learned two things that’s prompting me to make this entry:

1. As “Apollo 13ish” as my method was and its works, not everyone may get what to do from my outline of steps.
2. This problem still occurs even after a whole year that I came across my hotfix.

With that I’ve making a more straightforward set of instructions that any average Joe should be able to follow. And as such, Yorina and Dyma are here to help walk you through this.

Doing some spring cleaning, and I thought I’d show you my hard drive stash before I give them to a better home. Most of these are parts I collected when I was at ETSU, and most of them don’t matter anymore as I don’t have cases. I’ve about only kept what’s important to me, so all these extra drives are getting listed on Craigslist for extra cash.

So bye, you guys. You’ve been pretty good to me.

Finally getting an upgrade! Just swapped to this iPhone 5S today, so this’ll be interesting. This is actually the first time I’m buying my own phone, so it’s a first for me. Still sticking to that Otterbox goodness; kept me out of trouble the first time around, and hopefully it’ll do the same this time.

So yes, this is my last photo with my old phone. Signing off for now.

While heading out this afternoon, my brother and I had the exact same bug on our iPod Touch. We’d flip it horizontally, but when we stood it back up, the bar would stay on the long side of the screen. I found it extremely funny that the exact same thing happened, at the same time doing the same thing. Hopefully you found it as well.

When my aunt was here a little while back, she got me this spiffy MP3 player. Never had one before, so it was an interesting experience to say the least. At least it’s a lot easier to drown out the people at school around me. It’s also a lot more convenient than a CD player. If it just had an FM tuner, it’d be the most fantastic thing in the world.
