Act. 20

Vaygr Shuttle, Gate of Karnak, Harados System, Kalkuth Sector

A wing of Assault Craft flew above the shuttle, while another wing flew below. In the flanks of the shuttle, escorted two wings of Lance Fighters, one to the left of the shuttle, the other on the right. Combined, the four wings created a cross formation with the shuttle in the center, and the entire formation made its way out of the Hiigaran fleet formation and towards the Vaygr formations.

The screens flickered. The face in the screen bowed. “Vaygr-Khar,” he uttered humbly.

Act 19

It is I, your Prophet, that spoke of this, and you, my children, must remember.

On the last day of Tribulation, in the height of the heavens, I saw a might host of angels, their robes gleaming in white, singing praises to the Lord. The Arch Angel in her radiance, walked out from the host, and she opened a scroll. And from it she called forth the words to break upon the Seal to awaken the Last Angel who had been trapped in the bowels of the earth over tens of thousands of years. The Last Angel will be given the power to awaken all the Saints who had lived among us but could never enter the Gate of Heaven, and the host of the Betrayers that had opposed them. The Saints rejoiced in their awakening, and sang praises to the Lord, but not the Betrayers, whose hearts remained unrepentent with sin.

Act 18

Aboard the Ark of Geddon, Nasaan System, Biraal Sector

Radal never truly contemplated the significance of the Ark’s first hyperspace jump in perhaps so many millennia. He was just in a hurry to get away from the Somtaaw Task Force and automatically assumed that the Ark would jump out as flawlessly as the Naasha did.

When the Ark broke out of hyperspace, it just hit him how rash his decisions were made. This was after all, an ancient hulk, as old as for many tens of thousands of years. The fact that the Keepers have maintained the ship in pristine operating condition does not excuse his rashness and overthrowing of safety procedures that were ingrained and drilled to him since his days in the Fleet Academy. That was truly unforgivable, yet made moot by the fact that the Ark and the entire Keeper fleet jumped without a hitch, a testimony to the Keeper automatons that maintained the fleet in all during this lengthy time.

Act 17

Aboard the Celios, Atos System, Maranak Sector

They had all but discarded the trappings of their former past. Their elegant uniforms of bright color, gold and silver trimmings, medals of shining metal, badges of precious stones, now replaced with mere robes of flaxen linen and beige cloth. Their beliefs taught them that such trappings of boast and rank, now longer mean anything. For those under the Mission, there were only brother and sister, father and mother.

They had defied their race, their rank, their duties, left their family, friends and their comrades, all to answer a higher call, a call that came only from the deepest most primal urging of the Universe, of all Intelligence, and of all Life itself.

Act 16

Two hours before, aboard the Carrier Kharenin, Sulaak System, Obot Sector

The hours had worn on Admiral Sanin Soban as he called the staff to the war room of the Carrier. The last few hours had been tumultous as the subspace communication network has collapsed for unknown reasons, and only garbled messages have come through the channels.

The 33rd Task Force of Fleet Soban had an inventory of one Carrier, one Battlecruiser, four Destroyers and two dozen frigates equally distributed for Flak, Torpedo and Marine duties. Since the collapse of the network, the Task Force has entered Code Orange, implying a high readiness of alert in preparation for possible war. It would take a word from the Sajuuk-Khar or the High Council of Kiiths of Hiigara to shift the status alert into Code Red, which meant complete war. But the collapse of the network meant that obtaining direct communication would be difficult. Already among the crew, there was talk of war again with the Vaygr, and that the Vaygr has launched a surprise attack that paralyzed the communication network.

Act 15

Aboard the Kun-laan II, Ogaab System, Tarim Sector

Driven by orders from the Sajuuk-Khar herself, the Beastslayer Task Force entered a realm no other Hiigaran or Somtaaw has entered, except for one other man, the man he was assigned to pursuing—Radal Somtaaw. Only the Beastslayers, with their long experience in deep space exploration and sensor expertise, could dare thread the unknown like no other Hiigaran can.

Act 14

“There is very little known about how Makaan got his power, and how the Vaygr, rose from a collection of obscure backward nomadic tribes into the most formidable fighting force in the Galaxy. There are many legends how Makaan became the power that he was, stories that may be true or not.

But the most prevailing story, or legend or myth for whatever you call it, was that Makaan, himself only but a son of a slave, chanced upon a discovery so great, so unprecedented. He came upon, or perhaps, he himself was discovered by a race of beings so ancient, so powerful, that their time lines reach past the moment of recorded history. It was suggested that these entities were among those responsible for those massive ancient derelict graveyards, which were seen by our ancestors as titanic battles fought among the Gods. These godlike beings anointed Makaan, gave him the power and the technological resources, to unite the Vaygr tribes into one unified fighting force the superior of anything in the Galaxy. And among the things they gave him was the Third Hyperspace Core.

Who can wonder what power these beings have?”

—- Anatolius Shakmundi, Taiidan Historian, Author of the Rise of Makaan.

“When the End has come, all the souls of the Chosen, the Virtuous and the Worthy will be gathered in one mighty host, under the Great Opening. The Light will be shown upon them, and to the way that leads to Paradise.”

—ancient Taiidan proverb etched in the columns of the ruins of the Temple of Khemok, in the planet Isthys. It was etched in the classic Pre-Empire Taiidan hieroglyphic style. Age, source and author of the text is unknown.

Act 11

Aboard the Naasha, Taal-Shia System, Tarim Sector

The lights dimmed as the ship shook under the jaws of the Junkyard Dogs. For a moment the lights turned out and so did the instruments. The screens turned dark, and Radal stared at the ceiling, his ears the only connection to what was happening outside. The ship groaned as the Dogs pulled.

“What’s going to happen to us?” Gursal asked. “Are these robots cannibals? Do they eat us? Recycle our bodies along with the rest of the ships?”
