So this was a short reply I did last year. Not too much to say about this, but it was great to go out of my zone to a sci-fi root. I do miss writing sci-fi with spacecraft ops.
Done in September 4, 2020.
Note: My writing for Reddit writing prompts is different for brevity. While this is a good example of my writing, I often omit backstory and several details to create a concise post. Please look at my other works if you’re looking for my more regular style of writing.
Well, the Prowler’s EMP shield held.
“Well, unless you’re some cosmic entity, you usually die when a nuclear weapon gets detonated in your face.”
The blast was fading as the starlight started to twinkle again. I could see my attack carrier’s light blinking starboard, dipping my nose towards it.
“The possibility of less…annihilation was possible to defeat him. But it was necessary to make sure his life was extinguished.”
“Yeah, tell me about it, Armadillo. Can I get my ass back on the deck, or do you need me to get milk while I’m out here?”
“If you are still carrying ordinance, remain on station. His followers may still be straggling.”
I leaned back in my seat, looking to just sleep for more than 6 hours. EarthForce always knew space popes had bad elements. But for having known them for two centuries, this was the first time one actually rose up to do something. And what did he do? Try to use a planet-killer railgun on an Earth colony. EarthForce’ s apparent response was to light a nuke in his face.
Considering he did hurt 40,000 people, it was probably justified. Especially when spec-ops teams tried to exfiltrate him, his “allies” destroyed both space pope and Earthforce fleets, and even successfully took over a planet for resources…
And my wing stopped him. While I’m sure Armadillo’s captain was happy, I was almost sure EarthForce were ripping off their headsets in anger. They were looking for a space battle. And all the buildup, planning and bravado were stopped by what should’ve happened in the first place; find the guy and off him with what made Earth famous; space superiority strike craft.
My mind snapped back to attention, my stomach growling just a little. Should’ve stashed an MRE with me.
